Here they are, two juicy melons from the garden.
On the left is a Green Machine melon weighing just under 2 lbs. On the right is a Kansas melon weighing a couple ounces over 2 lbs.
Green Machine: The flavor was sweet even though we picked it a little over-ripe. At 2lbs this melon is the exact size the package said it would be. On the other hand, this is the only melon the vine has had so far which is opposite of the ‘incredible rate’ the variety promises. I actually blame this on this years extreme heat. Last year I decided to plant a few of these seeds late in the season and there were little melons everywhere! Unfortunately the cold weather came before they could ripen, but they were there.
Kansas: We really liked this one. The flavor was just as sweet as it smelled. The package says ‘fruit around 4lbs’, so ours is small, but there are a few more on the vine. Maybe they will grow to be 4lbs.
Overall, I plan to try both of these melons next year, and hopefully the weather will be more normal 80’s, not weeks of triple digits.
