Did you know you can re-grow that head of romaine lettuce you bought from the store? No. Me either until I found several images of it on Pinterest. So lets do a little learning together.
Here are 2 I have started. On the left is one started just yesterday. The lettuce on the right is after a week of growth! Can you believe it? Almost makes me sad to think of all those lettuce ends I’ve thrown away when I could have regrown them. Live and learn I guess.
There are many other food scraps you can regrow, namely: Beets, Onions, Basil, Lemongrass, Mushroom, Bok Choy, Garlic, Ginger, Pumpkin, Lentils, Avocado, Celery, Romaine Lettuce and Cabbage, Pineapple, Carrot Tops, Green Onions & Leeks, Potatoes/Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Apples. For all of the how-to’s use this link.
I plan to try the carrot top idea. If it works we will have the carrot seeds from the top and still be able to eat the carrot! 🙂
What a fantastic idea! After seeing this I purchased romaine heads from the store. They are cheaper and also more fresh looking than pre-shredded romaine. I put the cut off bottom in some water and in just a couple days it began growing! Thanks!
