Cold Frame Project

Mrs Garden4goodies asked me to build a cold frame and this is what I came up with.

We used some old window frames from replaced windows in the house and some plywood left over from another project. We did buy hinges, a handle and 2×6’s for this project. If I did it again I would use 2×4’s because the 2×6’s made the almost to heavy to move.

I started by framing it out with the 2×6’s

After the framing was complete I closed off the sides with the plywood.

I cut an old bike tube and nailed it to the top and bottom of the lid to make a weather seal.

Then it was time to put it together. I painted the box and put the hinges on.  Here is the finished product. We will move it to the garden area, facing south, and be planting it in early spring.

We will also be putting in an electric thermometer that will let us see the highs and lows inside the frame. Let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.
