Garden in August: Hail, Fall planting, and more

Shortly after my last garden update we had a surprise hail storm! It tore up the plants pretty well, especially the pumpkins. Hopefully the pumpkin plants that are growing can recover enough to ripen what is already there. Hail is not very unusual for around here, but even when we know storm is coming, it’s almost impossible to cover all the plants once they get big. So we do what we can when it happens.

We harvested what was ready after the storm, including the rest of the cabbages, dill seeds, and carrot seeds. I’m trying a fall planting of bok choy and spinach in the areas they use to be in. The area that had the dill and carrot seeds growing is fairly large, and though I like carrots, I don’t look at having those plants (unintentionally) go to seed as a waste. Seeds cost money and knowing I can easily grow my own is valuable knowledge. Anyway, you can watch it all in our video. Enjoy! And thanks for watching!
